A shooter opened fire Monday morning, inside the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, killing a teacher and a student, and injuring six others. The suspected shooter was found dead at the scene -- she was 15-year-old Natalie Lynn Rupnow who's apparently brainwashed, according to a manifesto she released before the shooting, which contains radical feminist ideological rant calling for the eradication of males.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said the 15-year-old, who goes by Samantha, opened fire inside Abundant Life Christian School on Monday morning.
At roughly 10:57 am local time, police responded to reports of an active shooter at the Abundant Life Christian School. They identified a "juvenile" deceased at the scene who they believe was responsible for the shooting. Barnes said officers did not fire their weapons when responding to the scene.
Barnes said the shooter used a handgun; and the shooting took place during study hall with multiple grades in the room. The shooting was confined to one space.
A second grade student called 911 to report the shooting, Barnes said.
Barnes added that two students are still in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. A teacher and three other students were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two of those individuals have since been released.
Police said evidence suggests the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Barnes said that the shooter's family was cooperating with police.
The teacher and student that were killed in the shooting have not yet been identified.
"Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever. We need to figure out and try to piece together what exactly happened," Barnes said.
"This is something you prepare for, but that you hope you never have to do," a police spokesman told reporters. "Today is a sad, sad day."
