Turning the gestures feature on, hides all the engagement counts of a post within the timeline, except the total view count which is now on the top-right corner of the post.
With the new feature, you can swipe right or left to perform various actions on a post -- Like, Reply, Repost, Share etc. You can still see the engagement counts by tapping into the post.
To access the feature, tap: Settings > Timeline > Post interaction.
The feature was launched Thursday, on Apple's iOS, and will be coming to Android soon. Many say the new feature declutters the timeline's user interface(UI), and will encourage a user to actually focus on the content of a post.
