Israel Passes Discriminatory Death Penalty Law Targeting Palestinians
March 31, 2026

Israel’s Knesset passed a law on Monday, making death by hanging the default sentence for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank convicted of deadly terrorist attacks against Israelis, with the bill approved by a 62-48 vote.

The law, championed by Jewish supremacist and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, applies to military courts in the West Bank and mandates execution within 90 days of sentencing, with no right to clemency, though life imprisonment may be imposed in “special circumstances.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had previously expressed reservations, personally attended the session and voted in favor, calling it a fulfillment of coalition commitments.

Ben-Gvir and coalition lawmakers celebrated the passage with champagne and wore noose-shaped lapel pins, declaring it a historic deterrent against terrorism. The law is widely seen as discriminatory because it effectively excludes Jewish Israelis from facing the death penalty, as it applies only to acts intended to “negate the existence of the State of Israel”—a threshold legal experts say would rarely, if ever, apply to Jewish extremists.

Critics, including the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, have filed a petition to the Supreme Court, calling the law “discriminatory by design” and enacted without legal authority over occupied territory.

The law does not apply retroactively, excluding perpetrators of the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attacks, and faces potential judicial and logistical hurdles before any execution can occur—Israel has not carried out a death sentence since 1962, when Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann was executed.

International condemnation was swift: the European Union, along with France, Germany, Italy, and the UK, issued a joint statement calling the law “de facto discriminatory” and a violation of democratic principles. UN human rights chief Volker Türk warned that its application could constitute a war crime, while Palestinian leaders denounced it as “institutionalized extrajudicial killing.” The U.S. State Department said it respects Israel’s sovereignty but emphasized that any measures must uphold fair trial standards.

Progress MS-34: Russian Soyuz Launches Progress 95 Cargo Capsule To The ISS

Russian Soyuz rocket launched the Progress 95 cargo spacecraft on Saturday, (April 25), at 2221 UTC from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The robotic freighter will deliver about 3 tons of essential supplies, including food, propellant, water, and scientific equipment, to the International Space Station (ISS) for the Expedition 74 crew.

Progress 95 is scheduled to autonomously dock with the aft port of the Zvezda module on Monday, April 27, at 0000 UTC.

This arrival followed the departure of Progress 93, which undocked on April 20 and burned up in Earth’s atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean to make room for the new cargo ship. Saturday's mission marked the second Russian cargo resupply flight of 2026, following the March 22 launch of Progress 94.

Progress 95 is expected to remain docked to the station for about seven months before departing to dispose of waste. It joins a fleet of four primary resupply vehicles, alongside Japan’s HTV-X, Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus, and SpaceX’s Dragon. All are expendable except Dragon, which makes splashes down in the ocean.

Custom Timelines And Snooze: X Launches Grok-powered Topic-based Feeds And Content Filter

Social media platform X has officially launched Custom Timelines, a feature allowing users to pin specific interest-based feeds directly to their home screen, alongside a Snooze Topics tool for temporary content suppression.

Announced by Head of Product Nikita Bier on Tuesday, and rolled out globally on iOS on Wednesday, these updates represent a major shift from a "one-size-fits-all" algorithmic approach to user-directed curation.

The Custom Timelines feature enables users to create dedicated spaces for over 75 distinct topics, ranging from broad categories like finance and sports to niche communities such as DeFi or robotics.

Powered by Grok AI, the system parses posts in real-time to categorize content with high precision, combining this understanding with the platform’s existing personalization algorithms to tailor each feed to individual user behavior.

Users can pin these topics to their home tab, creating new tabs alongside the standard Following and For You feeds, effectively decentralizing the traditional home experience into multiple personalized information hubs.

In conjunction with Custom Timelines, X introduced a Snooze Topics tool designed to help users manage the volume of specific subjects in their For You tab. This feature allows Premium subscribers to temporarily suppress topics—such as politics or sports—for 24 hours or longer if the content becomes repetitive or irrelevant. Bier described the tool as a way to "crank up or turn down the slop" in users' daily digital diets, providing a mechanism to mute subjects without blocking individual accounts.

Initially, these features are available exclusively to X Premium subscribers. Custom Timelines launched on iOS with support for Android and Web versions currently in the final stages of testing. The Snooze Topics feature is rolling out to Premium users on both iOS and Web platforms. There are currently no official announcements regarding the eventual availability of these features for free users.

Bier on Wednesday, also announced the platform will be deprecating the Communities feature due to "declining usage."

"XChat now supports joinable links for groupchats," Bier announced. "Create a public link & share direct to Timeline. With support for 350 members per chat (and growing), Groupchat Links are the fastest way to bring people together on X... Due to declining usage, we're deprecating X Communities on May 6. To migrate your Community's members, pin your groupchat link so people can join it over the next 2 weeks."

Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire Until 'Fractured' Government Submits 'Unified Proposal' For Peace

President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely, citing a "seriously fractured" Iranian government and stating the pause in hostilities will last "until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other."

In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump said the decision was made at the request of Pakistani mediators, specifically Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and military chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged the U.S. to hold off on attacks while Iran’s leadership unifies around a peace proposal.

The ceasefire extension came hours before the original deadline, averting an expected resumption of hostilities.

Iranian officials dismissed the ceasefire extension as a tactical delay, with Mahdi Mohammadi, adviser to parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, calling it "a ploy to buy time in order to deliver a surprise strike." He argued that the continuation of the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports constitutes an ongoing act of war, stating, "The continuation of the blockade is no different from bombing and must be responded to militarily." Iran's armed forces also warned they are "100% ready" to retaliate against any U.S. aggression.

Vice President JD Vance’s planned trip to Islamabad was postponed following Trump's meeting with top national security officials, and after Iran refused to attend talks unless the blockade was lifted.

Internal divisions in Iran’s leadership are reportedly deepening, with civilian officials favoring negotiations while Revolutionary Guard commanders oppose talks under current conditions.

The U.S. maintains control of the Strait of Hormuz, and oil prices fluctuated sharply ahead of and after Trump’s announcement.

"Iran doesn’t want the Strait of Hormuz closed, they want it open so they can make $500 Million Dollars a day (which is, therefore, what they are losing if it is closed!)" the presidet claimed on Truth Social. "They only say they want it closed because I have it totally BLOCKADED (CLOSED!), so they merely want to 'save face.' People approached me four days ago, saying, 'Sir, Iran wants to open up the Strait, immediately.' But if we do that, there can never be a Deal with Iran, unless we blow up the rest of their Country, their leaders included!"

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent writes on X: "As @POTUS has made clear, the United States Navy will continue the blockade of Iranian ports.  In a matter of days, Kharg Island storage will be full and the fragile Iranian oil wells will be shut in. Constraining Iran’s maritime trade directly targets the regime’s primary revenue lifelines.

"The @USTreasury will continue to apply maximum pressure through Economic Fury to systematically degrade Tehran’s ability to generate, move, and repatriate funds. Any person or vessel facilitating these flows—through covert trade and finance—risks exposure to U.S. sanctions. We continue to freeze the funds stolen by the corrupt leadership on behalf of the people of Iran."
