Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) successfully launched the first HTV-X1 cargo spacecraft, atop an H3 rocket from the Tanegashima Space Center at 0000 UTC, on Sunday (Oct. 26). It is expected to arrive at the International Space Station (ISS) for docking on Wednesday (Oct. 29) at about 1550 UTC.

The launch marked the maiden flight of the new generation of Japanese cargo ships and the debut of the H3 rocket’s configuration with four solid rocket boosters (SRBs). This H3 Flight 7 (H3 F7) mission represents a significant milestone in JAXA’s efforts to modernize its ISS resupply capabilities.

The HTV-X is the successor to the H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV), also known as Kounotori ("White Stork"), which completed its nine missions to the ISS between 2009 and 2020. The new spacecraft was conceived in 2015 to develop a cost-reduced, improved version of the HTV, with a focus on enhanced efficiency and flexibility. It features a modular design, reusing the Pressurized Logistics Carrier (PLC) from the HTV but incorporating a new Service Module that replaces the Unpressurized Logistics Carrier, Avionics Module, and Propulsion Module.

A key design change was the removal of the side hatch for late access cargo, which was initially planned but later abandoned. Instead, unpressurized cargo is now carried on top of the Service Module, allowing for greater payload capacity and improved mission flexibility.

The HTV-X1 spacecraft is 8 meters(m) long (1.2 m shorter than its predecessor) and has a launch mass of 16,000 kg. It can carry a total of 5,820 kg of cargo, consisting of 4,069 kg of pressurized cargo and 1,750 kg of unpressurized cargo, representing a significant increase over the previous HTV's capabilities.

The spacecraft is powered by deployable solar cells, generating up to 1 kW of power, and is designed to remain berthed to the ISS for up to six months. After departure, it can conduct extended free-flight missions for up to 1.5 years, serving as a testbed for autonomous navigation and long-duration system reliability.

The primary mission of HTV-X1 includes delivering a mix of consumables, maintenance gear, and experimental equipment to the ISS. A key payload is the i-SEEP-3B, the latest version of Japan’s exposed experiment platform, which will be robotically installed on the Kibo laboratory module to host small scientific and commercial payloads.

This first flight is not only a resupply mission but also a full-scale demonstration of JAXA’s upgraded power, avionics, and modular service systems under real ISS conditions

The H3 rocket, developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), is designed to be a cost-effective and reliable launch vehicle, incorporating 3D-printed components and simplified structures. Its maiden flight in March 2023 ended in failure due to a second-stage engine issue, but subsequent missions have been successful, including a February 2025 launch that deployed the QZS-6 navigation satellite. The H3’s ability to deliver precise orbital insertion into the ISS’s narrow orbital plane makes it an ideal partner for the HTV-X.

"HTV-X enhances transportation capabilities and adds the capability to provide various users with on-orbit demonstration opportunities for up to 1.5 years after leaving ISS until reentry," Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which builds the HTV-X for JAXA, wrote in a description of the vehicle.

Looking ahead, JAXA plans to extend the HTV-X design for future missions beyond low Earth orbit, including potential logistics support for the Lunar Gateway the space station NASA may build in lunar orbit as part of its Artemis program, and future lunar surface operations. The agency envisions it aiding "post-ISS human space activities in low Earth orbit."

HTV-X joins the stable of ISS cargo vehicles which currently include Russia's Progress vehicle and Northrop Grumman's Cygnus and SpaceX's Dragon, the only reusable craft of the four. The others are designed to burn up in Earth's atmosphere when their missions are over.

The successful launch of HTV-X1 signifies a new era in Japanese space logistics, enhancing international cooperation on the ISS and paving the way for Japan’s continued role in future space exploration.

'Israel Is A Strategic Liability': Tucker Carlson Talks Radical Islam, Identity Politics, Israel In New Interview

American journalist and commentator Tucker Carlson has intensified his criticism of U.S. support for Israel, calling it a "strategic liability" and asserting that the Israeli government and its allies in the United States are orchestrating a campaign to promote fears of "radical Islam" as a distraction from its own actions.

In a recent interview with Harrison Berger of The American Conservative, Carlson dismissed the idea that radical Islam poses a significant threat to Americans, claiming he knows no one in the U.S. killed by radical Islam in the past 24 years, and instead highlighted domestic issues like drug overdoses, unemployment, and the influence of OnlyFans pornography and video games as greater dangers.

Carlson condemned the concept of collective punishment, arguing that it contradicts Western values and is a hallmark of non-Western thinking, while accusing pro-Israel figures of promoting a "brain virus" of loyalty that overrides American interests.

The popular conservative commentator said that the sentiment that "radical Islam" is the greatest threat to America, as reflected in a Turning Point USA poll, originates from the Israeli government and its "many defenders and informal employees" in the U.S., framing it as a deliberate operation to manipulate American discourse.

Carlson argued that the U.S. is being drawn into an "ancient ethnic conflict" involving Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, and Hindus, which he believes distorts American society and foreign policy, and declared that "everyone involved can go home immediately."

He emphasized his personal observations, stating he has never taken money from a Muslim and has traveled extensively, asserting that the idea that all Muslims are terrorists is ignorant and disconnected from reality.

Carlson criticized the notion of defending "Western civilization" as a justification for supporting Israel, arguing that the core Western principle is the individual human soul and the rejection of collective punishment, which he believes is violated in actions like those in Gaza.

The popular commentator argued that Israel does not matter strategically, calling it small and lacking important resources, and labeled it a liability rather than an ally, a stance that contradicts mainstream neoconservative Republican foreign policy.

Carlson's remarks have sparked a significant reactions within the conservative movement, with figures like Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene expressing support, while others, including neoconservative senator Ted Cruz and U.S Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, have strongly criticized him, with Cruz accusing him of becoming "Nick Fuentes."

"No matter how hard the GOP tries to make 'radical Islam' happen, the base doesn’t care about it," popular conservative commentator Candace Owens declared on X. "We are way more concerned about Israel. You can deny reality and scream about Tucker, but the party can no longer be governed by those who refuse to acknowledge the Zionist elephant in the room. I’m just trying to spare you guys the inevitable billion dollar “ISIS is coming” digital campaign, wherein a bunch of online influencers will suddenly pretend they are deeply concerned about the threat of radical Islam. Our concerns about the Middle East begin with the Israeli occupation of D.C. Hope this helps."

The interview, which also touched on identity politics and Islamophobia, was part of a broader shift in Carlson’s public stance since leaving Fox News, where he has increasingly expressed more anti-war and 'America First' views. He has in the past urged the U.S. to "drop Israel" and stop supporting its military actions.

Carlson's supporters see his critique as a necessary challenge to what they view as a corrupt alliance between U.S. conservatives and Israel, particularly Christian Zionists.

The debate reflects a broader ideological rift within the Republican Party over foreign policy, with Carlson’s position representing a growing faction that prioritizes American sovereignty over unconditional support for Israel.

US Airstrikes Target ISIS Terrorists In Nigeria For Anti-Christian Attacks

The United States conducted airstrikes on Islamic State militants in Sokoto State, Nigeria, on Christmas Day, in coordination with Nigerian authorities. President Donald Trump announced the strikes on Truth Social, declaring them a "powerful and deadly" response to ISIS attacks on Christians, which he claimed had reached levels not seen for many years or even centuries.

The U.S. military’s Africa Command confirmed the operation, and War Secretary Pete Hegseth said the U.S. was "always ready" and warned of more strikes to come.

The strikes targeted camps of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’s West Africa Province (ISIS Sahel Province), known locally as ‘Lakurawa’, in Sokoto State near the border with Niger. The U.S. military stated the operation was conducted in coordination with Nigerian authorities, with intelligence provided by Nigeria.

While initial assessments suggest multiple militant fatalities, casualty numbers remain unclear. The U.S. War Department confirmed the strikes were carried out at the request of Nigerian authorities, though an earlier statement on X was later removed.

Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar described the operation as a "joint operation" with "nothing to do with a particular religion" and confirmed it had been planned for some time. The timing of the strikes, on Christmas Day, was not linked to the holiday by Nigerian officials.

The operation follows a series of violent attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria, including a recent mosque bombing in Borno that killed five and injured over 30. Trump has previously threatened military intervention in Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to protect Christians, and has taken steps such as adding Nigeria to a religious freedom violations list and a travel ban list. The U.S. has also implemented a new visa restriction policy targeting individuals involved in religious violence.

"Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!" Trump announced on Truth Social. "I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues."

Hegseth on his part said: "The President was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end. The @DeptofWar is always ready, so ISIS found out tonight — on Christmas. More to come … Grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation. Merry Christmas!"

U.S. Bars EU Censorship Officials From Entering The Country

The U.S. State Department, under Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has imposed visa restrictions barring five Europeans from entering the United States, accusing them of leading efforts to pressure American tech firms to censor or suppress American viewpoints online.

The move announced Tuesday, is part of a broader President Trump administration campaign against foreign influence over online speech, using immigration law rather than platform regulations or sanctions.

The targeted individuals include former European Union Commissioner Thierry Breton, leaders of German anti-hate group HateAid, and heads of organizations focused on so-called disinformation and digital hate

Breton, former EU Commissioner for Digital Affairs, was sanctioned for his role in enforcing the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), which has clashed with tech companies like Elon Musk’s X. He previously sent a letter to Musk demanding compliance with the DSA ahead of a Trump interview.

Imran Ahmed, CEO of the Centre for Countering Digital Hate, was targeted for his organization’s 2022 “Disinformation Dozen” report, which highlighted anti-vaccine figures including Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Clare Melford, CEO of the Global Disinformation Index, was sanctioned for allegedly using U.S. taxpayer funds to advocate for censorship and blacklisting of American speech.

Josephine Ballon and Anna-Lena von Hodenberg, leaders of HateAid, were sanctioned for their ostensible work combating so-called online hate and disinformation, with the group calling the U.S. actions an “authoritarian attack on free speech.”

The State Department cited these individuals as part of a “global censorship-industrial complex” that advances foreign government censorship campaigns targeting American speakers and companies.

The sanctions are based on a visa policy announced in May 2025 that restricts entry for foreigners deemed responsible for censorship of protected speech in the U.S. The Department of Homeland Security may initiate removal proceedings against those already in the country.

The move follows a broader trend of U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance, criticizing European nations for censorship, particularly over content related to the Covid-19 lab leak theory and other political topics.

The EU has not yet responded publicly to the sanctions, but European officials have expressed concern over the U.S. actions undermining European sovereignty.

The U.S. has also previously targeted visitors from certain African and Middle Eastern countries and the Palestinian Authority with similar visa restrictions.
