President Donald Trump has ordered the termination of funding to several media outlets, including BBC and Politico, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This was part of a broader effort to realign U.S. foreign aid priorities and stop funding left-wing media outlets that were seen as promoting anti-American views and values.
The Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency(DOGE) recently revealed that USAID had been funding these outlets, with Politico receiving over $34 million from USAID and other government agencies.
Other left-wing media outlets, including the New York Times and Reuters, have also been affected by the USAID funding cuts.
The BBC's charity arm has expressed concern over the funding cuts, said it could impact their programs worldwide.
However many Americans believe this was a necessary step to ensure that American taxpayer dollars were not being used to support media organizations that were fundamentally opposed to American interests and traditional values. And the Trump administration has maintained that the funding cuts are necessary to align USAID's priorities with his America-first policy.
