Popular American right-wing commentator, Rumble livestreamer and vocal critic of Israel's actions in Gaza, Nick Fuentes, 26, was targeted in a failed assassination overnight Wednesday, at his home in Berwyn, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.
In a security footage posted on social media by Fuentes, a man in tan pants, a blue jacket, and a white motorcycle helmet walks up the steps to the building's front door with a handgun and crossbow drawn.
After setting down the crossbow, the assassin rings the doorbell and lingers for a few seconds before yelling, "Yo, Nick!."
Fuentes, who was apparently live on Rumble hosting his 'America First' show at the time, said in an X post Thursday, that the assassin was armed with a pistol, crossbow, and incendiary devices.
Officers located the man, identified Thursday afternoon as John R. Lyons, 24, of Westchester, but he ran off. Lyons then forced entry into a home in the 1800 block of Wenonah Avenue and shot two dogs to death, according to police.
The resident of the home and owner of the dogs, Scott Wishecoby, said he found Lyons in his basement. “When I turned on the light the guy was standing at the end of the basement and just started shooting," he told reporters. "He shot, shot, shot. I blocked my son and I told him to get upstairs and get his mother and get out of the house. He ran. He was fast, and by the time I was running he was chasing me through the basement shooting.”
His wife and son got out of the house and ran to a neighbors. Officers later saw Lyons head eastbound into a yard back in the 1800 block of Home Avenue and proceeded to shoot at officers, according to police. They returned fire and fatally shot him, police said.
Officials believe the gunman killed three people earlier that day in the central Illinois town of Mahomet, about 140 miles south of Berwyn. The victims were identified as three family members: Sara Mason, 26, Janis Mason, 61, and Caleb Mason, 23. It's not clear yet why he targeted them.
"Last night an armed killer made an attempt on my life at my home, which was recently doxed on this platform," Fuentes wrote on X. "The gunman carried a pistol, crossbow, and incendiary devices. I believe he intended to kill me. He is now dead. I am okay!"
Referencing the deaths of his neighbors' dogs, Nick wrote, "While heartbreaking, it could have been so unimaginably worse. God have mercy. Doxing is not a game."
Fuentes' home address was doxxed last month after his viral "Your body, my choice," post on X, following Donald Trump's win in the presidential election.
Using the doxxed address, triggered Jewish Zionist and far-left activist Marla Rose went to Fuentes' house on November 10, to violently confront him about the post.
Rose recorded herself attempting to ring Fuentes' doorbell before he opened the door and allegedly pepper-sprayed her.
Fuentes was arrested on November 27 and charged with battery, a move widely criticized by many on social media who argue that the livestreamer was well within his right to defend himself and his property from violent and unhinged trespassers like Rose. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
The 26-year-old said he planned to move following the incident. He asked his fans for donations to help him finance his relocation and rebuilding of his studio. Fuentes has been deplatformed and banned from most social media and financial companies over his criticism of Israel.
The Illinois State Police has taken over the investigation of Wednesday's incident.
