Donald Trump defeated vice president Kamala Harris in Tuesday's elections in the United States. The 78-year-old who will be sworn in again as the 47th president on January 20, promised in his victory speech, to take immediate action on his campaign promises, and to deliver a “golden age of America,” unlocking the country’s potential.
Republicans are projected to retake the Senate and keep control of the House of Representatives, which will help Trump enact his policies and easily confirm his nominees to various offices.
Harris in her concession speech, urged supporters to “not despair,” emphasizing that the fight for freedom, justice, and the future is ongoing. She encouraged them to “roll up their sleeves” and stay engaged in the democratic process, despite the election outcome.
Experts say Trump's win is one of the most epic political comebacks in the world. He faced unrelenting lawfare and persecution in the hands of the ruling Democrat party prosecutors and bureaucrats; and was targeted by the media with coordinated smear campaigns and propaganda since his first run for the presidency in 2016.
Harris was backed by the mainstream media, Hollywood celebrities including Taylor Swift, former president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, big business executives and establishment elites in Washington DC. Trump won the election against all odds.
Trump's landslide victory triggered outrage and unhinged online reactions among leftists who took to social media to post videos of themselves wailing and screaming. The so-called 4B movement trended with some women claiming they'll stop having sex with men who voted for the former president. (The feminist movement began around 2019 in South Korea, and the Bs stand for Bisekseu - no sex with men, Bichulsan - no giving birth, Biyeonae - no dating men, Bihon - no marriage to men).
Democrat candidates' abysmal performance in Tuesday's elections, has caused recriminations and infighting within the left-wing party.
“We dug out of a deep hole but not enough. A devastating loss,” Harris advisor David Plouffe said. He has since deactivated his X account.
Another Harris aide reportedly said “We ran the best campaign we could, considering Joe Biden was president. Joe Biden is the singular reason Kamala Harris and Democrats lost tonight.”
Harris reportedly rejected President Biden's offer to campaign for her. One of his aides blamed the loss on the political coup by Democrat party's elites which forced Biden off the presidential race.
“There is no singular reason why we lost, but a big reason is because the Obama advisers publicly encouraged Democratic infighting to push Joe Biden out, didn’t even want Kamala Harris as the nominee, and then signed up as the saviors of the campaign only to run outdated Obama-era playbooks for a candidate that wasn’t Obama,” the aide said.
Trump has reportedly appointed his campaign manager Susie Wiles as his incoming White House chief of staff, the first woman to hold the job.
Trump is the second person to win a non-consecutive second term as US president. Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president served as president from 1885-1889 and then again from 1893-1897.
